F-650 or F-750? The finished truck and its route should answer.

Medium-duty buying is not a bigger-pickup exercise. Start with the dump body, box, tow unit, bucket, tank, or other vocational equipment; add its working load and route; then specify the chassis, powertrain, brakes, wheelbase, and service support around it.

Planning image, not a 2027 F-650 or F-750. Confirm medium-duty sales and service capability before requesting a quote.
01 / Weight class

F-650 begins where pickups stop

Ford lists F-650 GVWR choices from 20,500 to 29,000 pounds and F-750 choices up to 37,000 pounds in its 2027 fleet guide.

02 / Power

Gas or three diesel ratings

The published choices include a 7.3L gas V8 and 6.7L Power Stroke diesel calibrations. Choose by route, idle time, annual miles, PTO needs, and service—not peak output alone.

03 / Dealer fit

Confirm capability before the drive

Medium-duty authorization, lifting capacity, parts, mobile service, and the upfitter relationship are operational questions—not assumptions attached to a Ford sign.

Write the truck at its heaviest working moment

A landscape dump truck leaving a wet job, a refrigerated box climbing toward the Cascades, and a rollback returning with a disabled vehicle can share a cab badge and need very different chassis. List the completed body, permanently installed equipment, driver and crew, fuel, tools, payload, tongue or recovery load, and anything the truck may tow. Put each item where it sits so the front and rear axle estimates mean something.

Then describe the route: city stops, highway miles, steep access roads, low-speed job sites, overnight idle, tight docks, seasonal heat, and winter operation. The transmission, axle ratio, cooling, tires, brakes, suspension, fuel capacity, and power take-off provisions should support that day. If the truck earns money, prioritize ease of loading and service downtime over a feature the driver touches once.

Use F-650 and F-750 weight ranges as a starting boundary

Ford's 2027 fleet guide lists F-650 GVWR choices from 20,500 to 29,000 pounds and F-750 choices from 25,999 to 37,000 pounds. It also lists Pro Loader, straight-frame, and tractor configurations across the line, with regular, SuperCab, and Crew Cab choices in applicable builds. The overlap is useful: model name alone does not settle the finished rating or body fit.

A lower rating can sometimes align with license, registration, route, or operating goals, but commercial rules depend on the finished vehicle, use, combination, jurisdiction, and driver. Do not choose a 25,999-pound rating from a web summary to avoid a requirement. Confirm the actual compliance plan with Oregon DMV, the appropriate motor-carrier authority, your insurer, and whoever manages safety for the operation.

  • Get completed empty and maximum working weights by axle from the upfitter
  • Verify cab-to-axle, frame height, rear overhang, and body-mount requirements
  • Check license, registration, tax, insurance, and operating rules for the real use
  • Confirm the nearest facility that can lift and service the completed truck

Choose gas or diesel from the route and ownership plan

Ford lists a 7.3-liter gas V8 and a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel for the 2027 medium-duty line. In the fleet guide, the gas engine is rated at 335 horsepower and 468 pound-feet. Diesel calibrations are listed at 270 horsepower and 700 pound-feet, 300 and 750, or 330 and 850. The highest rating is not always the best fit for stop count, idle time, load, annual mileage, acquisition cost, maintenance plan, or available technicians.

Ask the upfitter about PTO and electrical needs before choosing a powertrain. Ask the operator where fuel is available on the actual route. Price scheduled service and consider how the emissions system will see the duty cycle. A truck that rarely reaches stable operating temperature deserves a different conversation from one spending most of its life loaded on I-5.

Confirm that the dealer relationship fits medium duty

A store that sells F-150 does not automatically have the authorization, bays, lifts, mobile equipment, parts plan, or technicians for a completed F-750. Before requesting a Southern Oregon quote, ask who will sell the chassis, who coordinates the body, where warranty work goes, and where the finished truck will receive routine and urgent service. Ask the same questions of the body manufacturer.

Butler Ford can tell you what it can support; this page does not claim medium-duty inventory or authorization on the store's behalf. If another Ford Commercial Vehicle Center or upfitter must participate, it is better to know before the purchase order. The most useful proposal will separate chassis, options, body, installation, transport, taxes and fees, inspections, and delivery timing.
