Choose the truck under the package

F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickups overlap in name but not in the work they do best. Chassis-cab choices extend through F-550 and are built around an installed body. A Southern Oregon contractor carrying tools every day has a different payload problem from a household towing a fifth-wheel several times a year. Write down the heaviest normal load, the worst-case loaded trailer, the people in the cab, and the roads the truck must fit.

Then settle cab, bed, wheelbase, single- or dual-rear-wheel layout, and pickup versus chassis cab. A long bed creates space and can make useful configurations available; it also lengthens every fuel stop, parking turn, and driveway approach. Ford's new Tremor Crew Cab with an 8-foot bed uses a 176-inch wheelbase. That is welcome news for buyers who wanted both, and a reason to measure the places the truck works before ordering it.

The 2027 off-road choices are meaningfully different

Tremor is now available on XL when paired with the STX Appearance Package. Ford lists 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, a locking rear differential, limited-slip front differential, tuned suspension with a factory lift, skid plates, water-fording vent tubes, Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist, and Rock Crawl mode. The package remains available farther up the trim range for buyers who also want a more finished cabin.

The new XL Off-Road 35-Inch Tire Package takes a plainer route. It is listed for an XL Crew Cab 4x4 single-rear-wheel short bed and keeps the exterior free of extra decals. Its hardware includes 35-inch tires, a ride-height increase, front and rear differential equipment, performance shocks, skid plates, trail aids, and a full-size matching spare. Compare the order guide line by line; similar stance does not mean identical content.

Tow ratings require the exact row in the guide

Ford's 2027 pickup towing guide lists a 40,000-pound maximum available gooseneck rating for a properly equipped F-450 regular cab 4x2 with the high-output 6.7-liter diesel, 4.30 axle, and the required towing equipment. Conventional, fifth-wheel, and gooseneck ratings differ, and moving to another cab, wheelbase, drivetrain, axle, or engine changes the table. Payload can become the limiting number before trailer weight does.

Bring Butler Ford the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating, realistic loaded weight, and expected pin or tongue weight. Add occupants, tools, auxiliary fuel, hitch hardware, bed accessories, and anything carried behind the cab. Compare the result with the door labels and ratings for the actual truck. If a commercial upfit is involved, coordinate its body weight, axle loading, power needs, and clearances before the chassis is ordered.

New packages deserve a practical read

The Carhartt package brings Carhartt Brown leather seating, workwear-inspired materials, exterior graphics, and 20-inch wheels to an eligible F-250 or F-350 XLT configuration. It is a distinctive cabin, not an increase in payload or towing by itself. Platinum trim also reaches F-350, F-450, and F-550 chassis cabs for buyers who spend long workdays in a vocational truck and value a more finished interior.

None of those choices should hide the work specification. Ask for the order summary with the model, wheelbase, axle, powertrain, GVWR package, cab, bed or cab-to-axle dimension, tow equipment, and every factory option written out. A handsome truck that forces the wrong body mounting or runs out of payload is still the wrong truck.
