XLT covers the widest middle ground
Four available engines, two cab styles, useful appearance choices, and available trailer and camera technology make XLT the broadest comparison point.
Start with cab, bed, engine, and the real weight you need to move. Then choose the trim that puts the right equipment around that truck. This guide lays out every 2026 F-150 trim and engine without pretending the most expensive one is automatically the answer.
Four available engines, two cab styles, useful appearance choices, and available trailer and camera technology make XLT the broadest comparison point.
That number requires the right cab, bed, axle, drivetrain, and tow equipment. Most F-150s on a lot will carry a lower rating.
Tremor adds 33-inch tires, trail aids, and an electronic-locking rear axle. Raptor changes the suspension, width, powertrain, and mission.
Horsepower is only the opening line. Torque, trim availability, trailer plans, payload, and whether you want onboard electrical power are what separate these engines in daily use.
The sensible starting point for commuting, home projects, and lighter trailer work.
The naturally aspirated choice for buyers who specifically want V8 response and sound.
The conventional-towing answer when the properly configured F-150 maximum matters.
The high-torque choice with available 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard for tools, a campsite, or backup-power planning.
Raptor’s standard engine, tuned for its high-speed off-road job rather than a maximum-tow build.
The Raptor R engine. Buy it for extraordinary desert-truck performance, not because a work truck needs 720 horsepower.
Ford publishes maximum available figures for particular configurations. Passengers, cargo, accessories, hitch hardware, tongue weight, axle ratio, cab, bed, drivetrain, and packages can all reduce the rating of an individual truck.
The Ford-listed starting prices below were checked August 16, 2026 and can change. Treat them as lineup landmarks; options, packages, taxes, fees, and the price of an actual vehicle are separate.

XL keeps the lineup’s widest body flexibility: Regular Cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew, plus 5.5-, 6.5-, and 8-foot bed availability across the range. Ford lists a Class IV trailer hitch, 17-inch steel wheels, a 12-inch center display, SYNC 4, and easy-clean vinyl flooring among its core equipment.
Tradeoff: Comfort and camera upgrades move into packages or higher trims. Start here when the configuration matters more than cabin finish.
Shop F-150 XL
STX shifts the look with 18-inch gloss-black wheels, a black-and-dark-gray grille, sport cloth seats, and a center console. SuperCab and SuperCrew bodies are offered, and Ford lists the PowerBoost hybrid alongside the 2.7L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8.
Tradeoff: It is appearance-led. XLT is the better next comparison when camera, trailer-assist, heated-seat, or broader engine choices matter.
Shop F-150 STX
XLT is where the choices open up: four engines, SuperCab or SuperCrew, 5.5- or 6.5-foot beds, LED fog lamps, Zone Lighting, and available heated seats, 360-Degree Camera, BlueCruise, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
Tradeoff: A heavily optioned XLT can climb toward Lariat money. Compare the two actual window stickers, not the base prices.
Shop F-150 XLT
Lariat moves to SuperCrew only and adds heated and ventilated ActiveX-trimmed front seats, heated steering wheel and mirrors, projector LED headlamps, power-folding mirrors, B&O audio, a 360-Degree Camera, and Ford’s two trailer-assist systems.
Tradeoff: It gives up the lower trims’ cab variety. If you do not need a SuperCrew or the comfort equipment, an XLT may leave more budget for the engine and tow hardware.
Shop F-150 Lariat
Tremor pairs a SuperCrew and 5.5-foot bed with 33-inch all-terrain tires, increased ride height, a 3.73 electronic-locking rear axle, skid plates, off-road-tuned suspension, selectable drive modes, Trail Control, Trail 1-Pedal Drive, and Trail Turn Assist.
Tradeoff: Its 5.0L and 3.5L EcoBoost choices exclude PowerBoost, and the off-road setup is unnecessary cost and complexity for a truck that will stay on pavement.
Shop F-150 Tremor
King Ranch is a SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost or PowerBoost. Its case is the Southwestern theme: leather bucket seating, genuine wood accents, two-tone paint, Bed Utility Package, Mobile Office Package, and a longer included BlueCruise plan.
Tradeoff: You are paying for a distinct design as well as equipment. If the theme does not speak to you, compare Platinum and Lariat feature for feature.
Shop F-150 King Ranch
Platinum keeps the SuperCrew, 3.5L EcoBoost or PowerBoost formula and adds its own cabin and exterior finish: 20-inch gloss-black wheels, heated rear seats, memory for the steering wheel and pedals, leather-trimmed touchpoints, and available power running boards and head-up display.
Tradeoff: Platinum Plus and appearance packages can change both price and equipment. Read the specific window sticker before assuming every Platinum is built alike.
Shop F-150 Platinum
Raptor is a SuperCrew, 5.5-foot-bed desert runner with a 450-hp high-output EcoBoost, FOX Live Valve shocks, heavy-duty skid plates, a Hi-Lock transfer case, Baja mode, and 35-inch tires. Raptor R swaps in the 720-hp supercharged V8; 37-inch tires and dual-valve shocks are available.
Tradeoff: Width, purchase price, tire cost, and off-road tuning are part of the deal. It is not the route to Ford’s highest tow or payload numbers.
Shop F-150 RaptorTrim equipment varies by equipment group, body, drivetrain, engine, and package. “Available” does not mean installed on every truck. Open the vehicle page and window sticker before treating a feature as present.
A trim cannot give back a cab or bed that does not fit the job. XL offers Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew configurations, including the lineup’s 8-foot-bed possibilities. STX and XLT offer SuperCab or SuperCrew. Lariat, Tremor, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor are SuperCrew trucks; Tremor and Raptor use the 5.5-foot bed. That split can remove half the lineup before upholstery or wheels enter the discussion.
Measure the cargo that cannot bend, the garage with the door closed, and the trailer’s space at full steering lock. Then sit in the rear seat with the driver’s seat correctly set. A SuperCrew is usually the straightforward passenger answer, but a longer cab changes wheelbase, turning space, price, and which bed lengths are available.
Ford publishes a 13,500-pound maximum available conventional tow rating and a 2,440-pound maximum available payload for the 2026 F-150. Both are achieved by particular configurations. Engine, cab, bed, wheelbase, 4x2 or 4x4, axle ratio, equipment group, wheels, and tow package can change the limits before people or cargo are added.
For a travel trailer headed over Siskiyou Summit, bring the trailer’s loaded weight and expected tongue weight—not its empty brochure number. Add passengers, a hitch, coolers, tools, and bed cargo, then compare that load with the yellow payload label, axle ratings, hitch label, and Ford towing information for the exact truck. The first limit reached is the limit that matters.
Every 2026 F-150 gives you a 12-inch center display, SYNC 4, and LED headlamps, so the basic screen is not a reason to jump several trims. The useful steps happen elsewhere. XLT makes the 360-Degree Camera and Ford’s trailer hitch and backup aids available. Lariat includes those three features and adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, upgraded lighting, and B&O audio.
BlueCruise availability begins on select XLT trucks and extends through Lariat, Tremor, King Ranch, and Platinum, but included trial or plan length differs. Connectivity and driver-assist subscriptions can also carry terms beyond the initial included period. Check what is activated on the exact vehicle and what it costs after the included service ends.
Tremor is the easier off-road step to justify for slower trails, rough access roads, snow, and a truck that still needs to do ordinary F-150 work. Its 33-inch tires, locking rear axle, trail aids, skid plates, and available Torsen front differential are meaningful hardware—not an appearance package. It also keeps a choice between the 5.0L V8 and 3.5L EcoBoost.
Raptor starts from a high-speed desert brief. The 450-hp high-output V6, wide stance, FOX Live Valve shocks, Baja mode, and 35-inch tires change how it fits, rides, and costs to run. Raptor R takes that idea further with 720 hp. If your route to a campsite is the hardest terrain the truck will see, drive a Tremor and an FX4-equipped XLT before paying for Raptor capability you may never ask for.

XLT is the most useful comparison point because Ford offers it with four engines, SuperCab or SuperCrew bodies, two bed lengths, and a wide range of camera, trailer, comfort, and appearance options. XL or STX can be the better value when those extras are unnecessary; Lariat can be the better buy when an optioned XLT approaches its price.
The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 reaches Ford’s 13,500-pound maximum available conventional tow rating when installed in the required configuration. The engine alone does not create that rating. Verify the exact cab, bed, drivetrain, axle, equipment, payload label, hitch, and loaded trailer.
The 3.5L EcoBoost is rated at 400 hp and 500 lb-ft and reaches the lineup’s 13,500-pound maximum available tow rating in the right configuration. PowerBoost adds a full hybrid system, raises output to 430 hp and 578 lb-ft, offers up to 11,600 pounds of towing, and can be equipped with 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard.
Tremor is a trail-focused F-150 with 33-inch tires, an electronic-locking rear axle, skid plates, off-road suspension, and trail aids. Raptor is a wider, high-speed off-road truck with a 450-hp high-output EcoBoost, FOX Live Valve shocks, Baja mode, and 35-inch tires; Raptor R adds a 720-hp supercharged V8.
Ford lists a 12-inch center display and SYNC 4 across the 2026 F-150 lineup. Cluster displays, camera systems, connectivity plans, audio, trailer technology, and BlueCruise availability differ by trim and equipment.
