2025 and 2026, side by side
Switch model years without losing your place and see where maximums or equipment changed.
Compare Ford trucks and SUVs by model year, powertrain, maximum loaded trailer weight, required equipment, payload impact, and flat-towing eligibility - all in one practical guide.
Switch model years without losing your place and see where maximums or equipment changed.
Engine, cab, wheelbase, axle, drivetrain, trim, hitch, and tow package can all change the rating.
Passengers, cargo, accessories, and tongue or pin weight all use the payload shown on the exact vehicle.
Headline ratings are maximums, not promises for every vehicle. Open a model, choose the year, and note the required equipment before shopping inventory.
This planning tool estimates tongue or pin weight and subtracts it, along with people and cargo, from the payload rating you enter. Use the exact vehicle payload label for a meaningful estimate.
“Yes” means the configuration appears in Ford’s model-year guide. It is not a universal instruction: each vehicle has its own speed, distance, transfer-case, transmission, battery, and engine-running procedures.
| Ford vehicle | Eligible configuration | 2026 | 2025 | Key Ford procedure / restriction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Escape Hybrid / Plug-in Hybrid | Automatic | Yes | Yes | 70-mph maximum; select Neutral Tow. Run the engine at the start of each day and at least every six hours, following Ford's shift procedure. |
| Bronco | Automatic or manual | Yes | Yes | Place the transfer case in Neutral Tow and follow every Owner's Manual step. The 2026 automatic listing also carries Ford's periodic engine-start procedure. |
| Expedition / Expedition MAX | 4x4 only | Yes | Yes | Requires a 2-speed transfer case and the transfer-case Neutral Tow procedure. 4x2 models are not approved. |
| Maverick Hybrid | FWD or AWD | Yes | Yes | 70-mph maximum; select Neutral Tow. Run the engine at the start of each day and at least every six hours, following Ford's shift procedure. |
| Ranger | 4x4 only | Yes | Yes | Requires a 2-speed transfer case and the transfer-case Neutral Tow procedure. 4x2 models are not approved. |
| F-150 / F-150 Raptor | 4x4 only | Yes | Yes | Requires a 2-speed transfer case and the transfer-case Neutral Tow procedure. 4x2 models are not approved. |
| F-250 through F-600 Super Duty | 4x4 only | Yes | Yes | Requires a 2-speed transfer case and the transfer-case Neutral Tow procedure. 4x2 models are not approved. |
The 2025 guide also lists F-150 Lightning as not approved. It is not listed in the 2026 guide.
The Ford PDFs contain the full cab, wheelbase, axle, GCWR, hitch, frontal-area, commercial vehicle, motorhome, and footnote tables. Relevant sections are pickup trucks on pages 15-28, SUVs on pages 38-42, and towing a Ford behind a motorhome on pages 48-49.
The maximum loaded trailer weight is only one limit. Confirm the exact vehicle's GVWR, rear GAWR, payload label, GCWR, and hitch rating before towing. The lowest applicable limit controls the setup.
Ford calculates these ratings with specific assumptions. Added passengers, cargo, options, accessories, hitch hardware, and trailer tongue or pin weight can reduce the trailer weight the vehicle can safely handle.
Include water, propane, batteries, food, tools, recreational gear, and anything else that travels in the trailer. Ford recommends weighing the fully loaded tow vehicle and trailer before a trip.
Use the door-jamb Safety Compliance Certification Label, payload label, window sticker, hitch label, and Owner's Manual for the vehicle you are considering. A model-level maximum does not guarantee that every vehicle with that badge carries the same rating.
This page summarizes Ford's 2025 and 2026 RV & Trailer Towing Guides for shopping and planning. It does not replace vehicle-specific labels, the Owner's Manual, trailer instructions, or a professional setup review.
These live matches come from Butler Ford's published inventory. Open any vehicle to review its window sticker and ask us to confirm its towing equipment.
